Lenovo will remove software that facilitated the theft of personal data – Business Journal – Portugal

The Chinese computer maker Lenovo assured on Thursday that will remove all their equipment software that, according to specialists, facilitated the theft of personal data.

In recent days Lenovo has been criticized by several computer security experts. The reason? A software that technological settled in their equipment before they reach the hands of consumers, making them more vulnerable to cyber attacks.

The complaints began to emerge in June last year. Consumers began to notice that this program called Superfish it was after an adware that shows ads automatically in the visited websites.

This malicious software is used by Lenovo since 2014 in almost all the products it sells to level world. And, besides inserting advertisements without the permission of users, let the slower computers with difficulty processing some pages.

According to recent news, allegedly also gives permissions to technology for personal data consumers, such as the type of sites that query, then this information may be sold to a sample database. Information that Lenovo ensures not be true.

In response to complaints from its customers and experts, the Chinese company guaranteed that this technology will no longer be pre-installed on their equipment and has been disabled for all its products since January, said official company source told Reuters.

The same source also admitted that this case discredits the company. And said that this technology investigated but found no evidence of vulnerability to cyber attacks. However, whilst maintaining that this software “helps consumers discover new products”, will be removed, he added.
