Mozilla will be represented by Mozillians (individuals who cooperate with the company) at the 16th International Free Software Forum. The event will take place in Porto Alegre (RS), between 8 and 11 July, and will be attended by ten members of the Mozilla community in Brazil that will take their knowledge to discussions about development and use of free software and its impact on digital inclusion of minorities and small communities.
On Saturday, 7/11, the last day of the event, at 16h, Melissa Devens, Ricardo Moraes Samuel Panaggio and share with other forum participants the experience of starting the digital inclusion of more than 300 women from rural Gaurama, gaucho municipality just over 5000 inhabitants. Over a week, developers helped people in the community to take the first steps in the digital world. In addition, a local staff has been trained to continue the project.
“After the inclusion of these women, there is an entire population that has no access to computer and internet, as their husbands and children,” said Ricardo Pannagio, responsible for managing the entire infrastructure of servers and communication used by other community projects developers Mozilla in Brazil. He said the plan is to take the proposal to other municipalities the size of Gaurama. “Smaller cities need more attention because they have fewer resources,” he points out.
