VW began using software that fraud pollutant emissions … – Bondenews

A Volkswagen’s internal review shows that the decision to install a software that reduces emissions in diesel vehicles during tests was made just before the production company EA 189 engine series, according to the German tabloid Bild am Sonntag. The software was first installed on diesel engines in 2008, just before the EA 189 be mass produced.

The measure was taken because there was no way at this time to reconcile compliance with the emission standards within the engine cost target, said the newspaper edition that circulated on Sunday. The other alternative would be to abandon the launch of the engine, which had been developing since 2005, the newspaper said.

The Volkswagen was not available to answer queries. Bild am Sonntag noted, however, that the motors in question Salzgitter were manufactured in factory and installed in the diesel models worldwide.

The Volkswagen reported that about 11 million of its cars sold around the world have been equipped with the software. US environmental authorities claim that the software was used to allow the company burlasse pollutant standards. Volkswagen reported that five of the 12 models of cars, trucks and motorcycles come with the software. Source: Dow Jones Newswires
