NASA launches software that helps lay to identify asteroids – EXAME.com

São Paulo – A new software created by NASA promises to turn anyone into a hunter asteroid . Named Asteroid Hunter Date (ADH), the news was announced yesterday.

Basically, what the ADH does is compare several photos taken from the same part of the sky. The possible asteroids located software identifying points that change position in the different images and have never been cataloged before.

Available for free download, ADH is compatible with desktops and laptops and can analyze pictures taken by amateur astronomers. The software is the result of a partnership between NASA with the US company Planetary Resources.

The idea is that asteroids discovered with the help of ADH are cataloged by the Minor Planet Center, linked to Harvard University.

The expectation of scientists is that the number of asteroids identified by amateur astronomers increase with the new tool.

“This increase in knowledge will help assess more quickly which asteroids are potential threats,” said the president of Planetary Resources Chris Lewicki in a statement posted on the NASA website.
