Stephen Hawking is one of the most extraordinary minds that the world knows. Theoretical physicist, is one of the most famous scientists of today. However, Hawking is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis carrier (ALS), a rare, degenerative disease that paralyzes muscles of the body without however, reaching the brain functions. Unable to speak, communicating through software and hardware where the eyes are the bridge between him and the system.
This software and hardware will now be available to the public so that the more than 3 million people suffering this disease around the world, to communicate more easily.
This project started with the intention of bringing Stephen a great help to communicate, ability when disease destroyed.
So the US company Intel has been working together with the British company SwiftKey, a computerized wheelchair system that helps Stephen in the tasks of your day-to-day, especially through its voice software which currently allows Stephen to communicate with other people.
Now, the US company plans to provide free software this for everyone, but the company warns that this technology will to be adapted to each user’s needs.
By making this technology becomes freely available, it has the potential to improve significantly the lives of people with disabilities all over the world. Without it, I would not be able to talk to you today.
Hawking, through robotics your computer voice
This past terça- fair held in London, a conference organized by Intel where the US company announced it would launch, for free, the same software that is currently used by Hawking. Without giving any official release date, the software should be available on-line at any time and will aim to help millions of people who, like Hawking, suffer from this disease.
As mentioned above, this software has been developed in the last three years, a lot of work and a lot of research that has borne fruit because, with this technique, Intel was able to reduce the number of moves needed to spell each word.
