Brazil creates software to improve blind web experience – Techworld

F123 Access can decode browsed pages and reinterpreting the codes, so user does not suffer from poorly formatted pages

In order to improve the experience of Web users with visual impairments, the sociologist Fernando Oliveira, ahead the F123 Consulting, developed the F123 Access.

This is software that decodes the pages browsed and reinterprets the codes, so that the user does not suffer from the pages that often are poorly formatted.

Developed with the support of Ashoka, a global organization that provides training and consulting social entrepreneurs, the system works like a Mozilla Firefox browser add-on and can be downloaded for free via the site in the languages Portuguese, English and Spanish.

According to Oliveira, also blind, just watch out for the formatting of web pages that use the HTML code incorrectly: Visually the page is perfect, but the coding, however, is full errors.

The blind then you can use a screen reader that allows using your computer. This reader transmits to the user through a computer voice that is written on the screen. However, if the code is wrong, the user can not understand the full page. In case, the F123 Access “fix” this code so that the content of the understanding is clear.

“It may be that the title of an article is centered and appear in a larger font, but without the HTML code used for headers. The typical result is the normal appearance for those who sees and the difficulty for those using screen reader software, “explains Fernando.

According to Oliveira, the idea for the plugin came from his personal experience and chat with other users . “The demands are very varied. We have people interested in making purchases via the Internet, while others wanted to access social networks without difficulty, “says
