Software error allows selling products to a pound on Amazon – Daily News – Lisbon

It was only an hour, but some vendors fear that has been enough to lead to bankruptcy. A software error on Friday, between 19.00 and 20.00, reduced the price of several products for a pound (just over one euro) in the UK Amazon site. Hundreds of orders were made.

According to Sky News, some companies use the system (paid) of RepricerExpress, a software programmed to automatically change prices in order to maintain the cheapest particular product on the internet. A failure in this program, not yet identified, allowed the mistake is leaving the affected vendors desperate.

“I lost almost 20 thousand pounds [about 25,000 euros] from one day to the other. I asked Amazon to cancel orders, but he continues to send them and to charge fees horrible. Surely someone must be held accountable. At this rate I’ll be bankrupt by the end of January, “lamented Sky News Judith Blackford of Kiddymania. Another seller says that the damage amounts to 30,000 pounds.

The CEO of RepricerExpress, Brendan Doherty, already had apologized for this. “We received a communication from Amazon that will not penalize vendors for this error. We are working to identify the problem and to ensure that does not happen again. We are all devastated and disillusioned who have gone through this problem,” he said.

Now Amazon said that it is “aware” of what happened:. “We reacted quickly and managed to cancel most of the orders and will not be charged costs or fees to vendors for these canceled orders We are now reviewing the small number of orders that have been processed and we will contact directly with the affected vendors. “
