Man faked own death was caught by software … – Exame Informática

The man, whose real name is Jose Salvador Lantigua, is another example of that as facial recognition technology is helping to catch criminals and will now face fraud charges to an insurance company and provide false information in request to issue a new passport.

According to the Ars Technica , Jose Salvador Lantigua simulated death itself and the Venezuelan authorities have even declare him dead in April 2013. The family then tried to get the money from the life insurance, but the insurance company refused always pay.

Lantigua forward then with an application for a US passport under the name Ernest Allen Wills in November 2014. The North Carolina authorities did the usual research in these cases and the facial recognition software showed that the face of “Wills” was the same this photo on Lantigua passport.

The authorities then arrested the criminal who in relation to the aspect as before, was now using a toupee and had beard.
