All University of Lisbon already use software that hunts plagiarism – Exame Informática

The school year 2014-2015 makes history as the first in which all the faculties of the University of Lisbon began to use software that detects plagiarism in academic theses and student work. According to the Daily News , the Lisbon University decided to extend to all courses using this software that compares the work signed by the students with international databases in order to detect plagiarism – and also avoid that some of these works may be adopted without the academic services the detetem.

Ephorus software even led to a resolution of University Education Institute Lisbon, which recommends that special attention teachers with regard to the surveillance of works written by students.

The use of the platform even led to the introduction of a new procedure: the students have to sign a declaration that stated they were aware of the use of the software and the consequences that the detection of plagiarism can have on academic and legal level (the law punishes plagiarism with a maximum of three years in prison).

In four years, the Ministry of Education only opened seven cases related to plagiarism, but some studies give 40% rates account when it comes to plagiarism in papers signed by students.
