Lessons software design: how to build compelling solutions and … – IT Forum 365

As people take different expectations for the labor market, new experiences are becoming critical to compete. This is the opinion of Etan Lightstone, director of UX design New Relic.

In an article for Tech Crunch the Executive reported that while most software makers are increasingly aware of this fact, the challenge today is how to effectively make the transition to the construction of quality software.

For him, a designer without an engineer is an art gallery, and an engineer without a designer is a place in a parking lot. Therefore, balancing perspectives and ideas designers and engineers is vital. Instead of having designers on a project only at the beginning or end, they need to work closely with the engineers along the way to properly align the design and engineering capabilities.

Designers must share the product definition to product managers and help achieve a balance. Designers should take a design perspective, focusing on usability, workflow, and a good emotional reaction of customers. The product leaders must provide their business perspective, an increase in profit and market share.

Lightstone teaches that it is essential to use the right design patterns, and iteratively test applications to create a differentiated user experience . Make them easy to use so that people do not make mistakes that lead to frustration is another important tip.

He also says that it is imperative to establish an emotional connection with customers. Charming people with a clever animation in a graph, a useful indicator, for example.

To test the applicability of the software, the executive advises that in each development sprint if establish customer groups to evaluate the product and help assess its usability. Early in the process, even before the product is fully ready is interesting to test different prototypes to identify which are the best reaction.

In the executive vision, perhaps the greatest challenge is to make the user interface simple enough. To maintain this balance, you have to carefully weigh the feedback it receives and sometimes avoid apparently valid suggestions.

Lightstone believes that follow the best practices , alignment with other areas, real-time collaboration with customers, and hplc user experiences that surprise and enchant will help companies build software that will help to enhance the competitive advantage in a world increasingly more related to software.
