US military study software able to update … – Info Online

The research department of the Armed Forces of the United States (DARPA, its acronym in English) studies ways to develop software capable to update itself, and that works for a century without becoming obsolete.

Called “Building Research Adaptive Software Systems” (BRASS), the project seeks to create new software that withstand decades of hardware upgrades and engineering without major corrections or adding lines of code.

Programs that are able to adapt and evolve alone could ensure that the information stored today is still available years from now, and will ensure that the system protections continue working.

“While software systems Modern continue to increase their capacity and complexity, users were accustomed to periodic cycles update and upgrade to avoid obsolescence – a process that is sometimes frustrating. “says DARPA

” Technology evolves inevitably but generally corresponding changes in libraries, extensions and protocols in a software ecosystem weaken the behavior of applications, “says DARPA program manager, Suresh Jagannathan.

But the task is complex and, according to summary of the project, the US government department is open to suggestions from anyone who has good ideas in the
