Car manufacturers required to disclose ‘software’ to … – Economic

Car manufacturers will be required to report to the German authorities all about the software you use in car engines. The decision, according to the German government, comes after the scandal of manipulation of pollutant emissions in the Volkswagen brand.

In addition to the disclosure of the ‘software’ that equips engines, exhaust emission tests made by brands will have to be repeated by public authorities to confirm the results, among other measures that will be part of a complete package. The measures were announced today by the Minister of German Transport, Alexander Dobrindt, which has not advanced more details.

Alexander Dobrindt thus confirmed the news of the German daily Bild, according to which all major manufacturers will soon be required to make known to the German Automobile Authority (KBA) the ‘software’ that equips their engines.

Among other measures, the ‘software’ used to measure the amounts of gas leaks should be progressively replaced, says the daily.

The paper states that the measures emerged from the committee of experts formed by the government that was responsible for making the investigation of the scandal in which Volkswagen was involved. At issue are eleven million engines have ‘software’ that distorted the results of anti-pollution tests of diesel cars.
