According to the Washington governor’s official information Jay Inslee , the department responsible for administering sentences in prisons – DOC (Department of Corrections) – freed several prisoners before they meet the pen set. The fault was the management software!

Prisoners Early Release

The sofware had a bug that affected the calculations of the length of stay in prison of inmates having” influenced “3200 cases since 2002. The management software is mainly variable maximum period of sentence but allows you to apply” automatically “granted reductions, this is the inmate has good behavior or attend school (such as in Portugal). And it was at the outset, these “automatic updates” that led to the reduction of penalties.

Already in 2012 the DOC had been alerted by a family who considered that an inmate had been released too early. Currently, according to indications, there is still no fix for the bug.
