After opening in April, the Polo Automotive Jeep in Goiana (PE), FCA – Fiat Chrysler Automobiles chose Brazil to install its newest Research Center, Development, Innovation and Automotive Engineering. The center will be installed in Pernambuco, and the first of four units that integrate this complex Automotive Intelligence opened on Wednesday, December 2, in Recife (PE).

This is the Software Center, dedicated exclusively to the design and development of software for automotive control of engine and transmission (powertrain). This is the first unit of the FCA focused on the development of software in Latin America.

“This center will be a milestone of automotive intelligence production location in Brazil, creating new systems and solutions for cars produced by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles worldwide. Pernambuco will contribute to the development of our group in Latin America and at the same time, it becomes a world-class center in the automotive engineering and mobility, “said Stefan Ketter, president of FCA for Latin America.

The Software Center will develop programs that will provide greater energy efficiency, reduced fuel consumption and emissions, and greater maneuverability, improving powertrain performance and improving the response to commands executed by the driver.

The implementation of the Polo Automotive Jeep in Goiás, with capacity to produce 250,000 vehicles per year and employing more than 7000 workers, predominantly labor of Pernambuco and the Northeast, had great impact on the process of re-industrialization and job creation in the region.

Expectation is that the Center for Research, Development, Innovation and Automotive Engineering will cause similar positive impact when interacting with educational institutions and Pernambuco research and the Northeast and stimulate the formation of skilled labor in the region to meet the demand for consolidation of a center of automotive intelligence.

Quality Jobs

The Center for Research, Development, Innovation and Automotive Engineering of the FCA in Pernambuco will generate about 500 jobs in the coming years. Of these, 210 have already been hired professionals. Chrysler has partnered with eight educational institutions of Pernambuco and Paraíba, responsible for offering specific courses, adapt their curricula, develop projects and research and training lines: Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), Rural Federal University of Pernambuco (UFRPE) , University of Pernambuco (UPE), Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB), Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG), Federal Institute of Pernambuco (OPSI), National Industrial Apprenticeship Service (SENAI-PE) and Euvaldo Lodi Institute (IEL- PE).

Among the courses offered are the Postgraduate Diploma in Automotive Engineering at university, which aims to specialize engineers on the structures, engines and productive automotive process, and the Specialization in Energy Efficiency Automotive in UFPB , focused on the learning of existing technological innovations in the automotive market, starting with the main development process of a vehicle until the determinant factors for increased energy efficiency of a car.
