Pirated software still occupies 50% of the Brazilian market, according to … – Computerworld

Although we are in the era of cloud computing, Software as a Service (SaaS) and mobile apps, the software market still faces piracy of computer programs using as means of distributing CDs and DVDs. In this Wednesday (3/12) ABES (Brazilian Association of Software Companies), will destroy 2.1 million media with illegal software to mark the National Day to Combat Piracy.

The material is the result of search and seizure operations carried out by the authorities in recent years and was stored under the entity’s responsibility to get judicial authorization to be destroyed. The destruction will be performed by the company Plasnoi Plastics Trade through a grinding mill which breaks the material for recycling.

The Legal Director of Abes, Dr. Manoel Antonio dos Santos, remember that in the 80s the piracy rate in Brazil reached over 90%. Currently, although the software has reduced its price and SaaS marketing model is growing, piracy still represents 50% of the market. To follow the market, the Abes use Internet Monitoring service and receives anonymous complaints in http://www.denunciepirataria.org.br/ portal.

Until November, according to Abes, the service Internet monitoring ABES managed to remove about 65,000 ads, links and sites with content that gave access to files that violate the Copyright Law of Software associated entity. “We have worked for over three decades and we still have half of computer programs in use Brazil without permission. Much remains to be done regarding Intellectual Property in Brazil, “says Santos.
