Unesp develops able to predict epileptic seizures software – News Minute to Brazil (press release)

One of the great difficulties in epilepsy patients is dealing with the unpredictability of crises. They can happen at any time and when least expected – no matter the place, time or how many people are around. In addition to the concern about possible accidents, patients, social occasions can still suffer from stigma and prejudice of people who do not understand the disease.

“There is still no market any device that can predict crises, “says Cerdeira. “Anticipate them can help, for example, in preventing accidents, as will give the patient the opportunity to get out of a threatening situation.”

Fortunately, this scenario may soon change thanks to a Brazilian innovation . Physical Hilda Cerdeira, a volunteer teacher at the Institute of Theoretical Physics at Unesp and retired researcher at the ICTP, and his daughter, the engineer Paula Gomez, are developing a device capable of informing the patient, with minutes early, a crisis will occur.
