Even without assuming the opening of an official investigation, the European Commission is examining whether there is the basis of the complaints lodged last week by several countries regarding the consumption of televisions, point on Monday the Spanish agency Efe.

The case dates back to 2011 when the UK have warned Brussels , after finding evidence that some TVs may have used a software to handle the consumption energy. “The idea seemed to be spending the maximum brightness measurement testing and reduce the brightness and consumption to achieve a higher ranking in energy consumption labels,” states the minutes of this meeting.

Sweden will have done same warning to Brussels in January. “This is a way to elude market regulation authority and the European Commission should rule on it”, says this document, quoted by Spanish newspaper El Confidential .

The same have been reported by independent laboratories that relate “different behaviors during measurements.” has not been shown, however, the use of a device those skilled in the ComplianTV, like installed at 11 million vehicles Volkswagen Group.

Brussels analysis should serve, on the other hand, to eliminate legislartivas gaps explicitly prohibiting the use of these same mechanisms that detect when a television is being tested in laboratory or to be used elsewhere.
