The Volkswagen have developed several versions of handler emissions software for diesel engines.

According to Reuters, Volkswagen will have recourse to the technical solution in the TDi engines of 1.2, 1.6 and 2.0 liters for seven consecutive years, improving the software over this period.

The first engine equipped with emission defeat device was the EA189 Diesel, having followed the new EA188 in versions 1.6 and 2.0.

The same sources say that Volkswagen has used more than one type of technical solution, implying that the complexity involved in creating it is more complex than was initially referred to.

This means that there were more than a few engineers involved in this illegal maneuver.

“Knowing the number of people involved is central to investors because it can affect the amount of fines and extent of changes in the company’s management,” said Arndt Ellinghorst, Evercore ISI consulting analyst.

“The more top people are involved, the more the company will be held responsible and worthy of penalties,” he added Brandon Garrett, corporate crime expert at the Law School of the University of Virginia in the United States.

The scandal which deeply struck the image of Volkswagen, took the resignation of chairman of the board of directors, Martin Winterkorn, and triggered several investigations all over the world
