Software “Toonz” animation used in Futurama and the Studio … – Adrenaline

Cartoon Brew is reporting that the animation software “ Toonz ” will soon be available as open source . The Toonz is a software used by Rough Draft, the studio behind Futurama, and the studio of Japanese animation, Studio Ghibli. The free version of Toonz will include several custom features that were developed specifically for the Ghibli films over the years.

The open software will be called OpenToonz , and will be presented at 26 during Anime Japan in Tokyo. Digital Video, creator of Toonz, will continue to develop Toonz software to market, and will offer installation, configuration, training, support and customization for the studios. The premium version of the software will continue to be sold at a “very competitive price” for companies
