Software will reign in data centers – Digital Convergence

The software will be the king in the evolution of digital business data centers, Gartner projects. But the advisory warns, most companies are not yet ready to start the model of the adoption process and therefore must proceed with caution. This is because the data center software defined – SDDC in Gartner acronym -. Comprises a processing center where all the infrastructure is virtualized and delivered as a “service”

This allows increased levels of automation and flexibility to support business agility by increasing adoption of cloud resources, and modern technology approaches. According to consulting, by 2020, data centers, software-defined will be considered a fundamental requirement for 75% of 2000 global companies involved in implementing DevOps approach and hybrid cloud model.

“The infrastructure and operations leaders need to understand the business landscape, the best use cases and the risk of a SDDC. Due to its current immaturity, the concept is more suitable for visionary companies with advanced knowledge in engineering and architecture, “advises Dave Russell, vice president at Gartner.

The expert notes that technology leaders should not just buy one of these prefabricated virtual infrastructures from a supplier. “First, they need to understand why they need it for your business and then implement, orchestrate and integrate many parts, probably from different vendors,” he says.

But to have a data center defined by software corporation interested need to conduct a cultural change. “It will not work if you think about IT as happens today. It is a change of view. You can not think of the software with the same look of the hardware,” added the VP at Gartner.
