Apple acquired LearnSprout, a startup focused on educational technology software that helps teachers track how students are doing in school. According to the very LearnSprout, more than 2,500 schools in 42 states currently use their software in the US.
After the news spread through the web, Apple, when asked about their intentions in the acquisition, He issued the standard response in such cases: “Apple purchase small business technology from time to time and generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.” But there is no denying that these plans have a focus on education.
Apple last year announced that it has signed a significant contract with the Los Angeles school board that will provide $ 30 million in iPads for the district in their school setting. Since then, the company has developed educational resources for the iPad in the coming iOS 9.3.
The performance monitoring capability of LearnSprout seems to fit perfectly with the set of Apple tools that allow students to see interactive lessons, track your progress and share computers and tablet with your colleagues.
The San Francisco startup, LearnSprout, has raised over $ 4 million from investors including Andreessen Horowitz and Formation 8.
