That the technology and education can be combined with many people – including teachers – already know. But putting this partnership into practice is a challenge that still faces obstacles, ranging from teacher training to financial constraints.

In this context, free software comes out ahead free access, according defends teacher Ronald da Costa, the General Secretariat of the Presidency, master of information science. He is a speaker at the 16th International Free Software Forum (FISL), held in Porto Alegre. According to him, besides the financial factor, open source programs offer the possibility to stimulate the role of teachers and students. “When I have a proprietaria technology’m a user, will not create new things from the (structure) of it, but from the moment I use free software I have this possibility can be more than one user, one who innovates, recreates, reconstructs onths processes, “he explains.

To Ronald da Costa, community aspect that structure the operation of free software should be widely worked in the classroom to form citizens who take this habit in their lives beyond the walls of school.

“The great thing about free software combined with education is we transpose this philosophy of cooperation, exchange of experiences, of giving to others. The free software has this philosophy and education, the important thing is to show it to the student. From the moment that we show the possibility of the role, it is transformative, “says Ronald Coast.

Teachers are in the process several challenges, including the fact dealing with generations of students who are already accustomed to technology, often more than themselves. In this sense, the researcher points out the need for teacher training for technology still in undergraduate courses. “You have to approach the professional that language so that when there is use (cell in school), he did not depart the learning process tool, but can use as a vector to drive this process of learning,” he believes.

Ronald da Costa participated in the program Dot Com Point special Br, direct broadcast of the event. He argues that it is necessary to promote social thought of digital participation, which can be put in place with the Participa.br, among other proposals. “The educational process is social participation, the school is embedded in society,” he says. “You need to bring society inside the school to dialogue. We think that open technologies can help in that building, “he argues.
