VW risks pay 71 600 million because of the magic software – Economic

The data falsification scandal in measurements of pollutants emitted by Volkswagen cars (VW), which has already led to the resignation of the group’s CEO, Martin Winterkorn, could cost the German manufacturer more than 80 billion dollars (71, € 6 billion). And it should also rule out the hypothesis of VW take the lead in the world ranking of car brands this year. Accounts are the Focus2move, a consultant specializing in the global automotive industry, which estimates the number of vehicles operating worldwide with software that handles pollutant emissions in diesel vehicles VW will amount to 40 million units, involving Europe and Korea.

“We estimate that the costs to address this problem are between 80 billion and 100 billion dollars [the German group has advanced that would provide a budget of 6, 5 billion euros] with a radical restructuring of all operations and losing not only a world leader but down even the podium of the brands that occupy the global ranking of sales “, advances the Focus2move.

The construction company German is being charged in the United States to tamper with engine performance in terms of emissions to the atmosphere through a ‘software’ embedded in the vehicle, facing a fine of up to to 18 billion dollars (about 15 900 million).

The scandal will force the German manufacturer a period of restructuring which could affect all production units. So says Peter also Ricardo Santos, X-Trade Brokers manager. “The possible restructuring of the group can go through the closure of some production units and, in this scenario, our economy is also affected since the Palmela plant is responsible for a large share of our exports,” said Pedro Ricardo Santos.

Currently, VW Autoeuropa is making an investment of EUR 677 million to implement a new development platform for receiving one or more new models. In July the Portuguese plant stopped production of the VW EOS, which had as one of the top US markets, continuing with the production of the VW Scirocco and MPV VW Sharan and Seat Alhambra.
