Nuix: software that helped unravel the Panama Papers – Exame Informática

For once, the Nuix left the discretion: was this Australian company that developed an essential tool to help journalists who participated in the International Consortium research project of Journalists (ICIJ) to analyze the huge volume of data that makes up the Papers called Panama. According to Reuters, Nuix donated the analysis software for the consortium of journalists and the media in order to facilitate the detection of relationships between the various operations described in more than 2.6 Terabytes of e-mails, images and PDF that were extracted from the company Mossack Fonseca lawyers, Panama

Angela Bunting, leader of Nuix, did not reject the opportunity to claim the feat when it came time to be interviewed by Reuters:. “what we did was to create the conditions for the ICIJ do something he could not do in months or years “

the case of Panama Papers is revealing a new support reporters tool. after having performed the scan a file with more than 40 years (and containing Watergate revelations, 1970), members of the ICIJ were able to use the software for the already trivialized searches for terms, and also to use tools that detect patterns, relationships between distant events in time and space, among other features that distinguish them from the so-called platform “big data”

Nuix contributed to the provision of the tool. – but remained alienated from the entire process, even unaware of the existence and content of the Panama Papers. What demanded that someone with technical knowledge to do the technical description of the resources required to run an equivalent scale process, prior to the transfer and respective configuration data analysis tool.

In addition to the journalists, it is also possible to find other professions among potential users of Nuix. Today, the company based in Sydney, provides solutions to the United Nations and the US Secret Service, and other government agencies have resorted to data analysis to dismantle pedophile networks, human trafficking and tax evasion.
