Apple buys German company augmented reality software … – Reuters Brazil

FRANKFURT (Reuters) – Apple bought Metaio, a German producer of augmented reality software for an undisclosed amount, according to documents released to the German market on Friday

Augmented reality technology combines video screens images real world with computer-generated graphics. The Metaio software is used in applications in retail, industry and vehicles. The company’s products are present in showrooms and retailers such as Ikea manuals. The company also creates visual guides for maintenance of complex industrial and automotive equipment.

Representatives of Apple and Metaio declined to comment. “The Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time and generally do not comment on the goals,” the US company said in a statement.

Juniper Research analysts expect reality technology used in larger companies will grow 10 times, moving $ 2.4 billion compared to 247 million last year . Other companies vying for this market include France’s Total Immersion and British Blippar.
