The British Sky largest subscription television company in the United Kingdom, who is required to change name Skype in Europe. Skype is a software that allows you to perform communications via chat, phone call and video. The software was created in 2005 and since then the Sky company has argued that the same name can cause “likelihood of confusion” with your brand.
The case has European Court state in the last ten years , which decided that there really was this “risk of confusion” given the similarity of the names. Skype appealed the decision, but the same was confirmed by the Court. The decision may prohibit Microsoft to register the Skype brand in Europe, but there is so far no indication to change the name.
