PUC-RS: software agency for students – Baguette (press release)

Starting next semester, the students of Degree in Software Engineering from PUC-RS will to act in Experimental Software Engineering Agency.

For four disciplines along the graduation, students pass through the environment, acting in different roles in software development projects

<. p> The first class of the course was formed in the first half of 2015 and has 60 students. The start of the Agency shall consist of these students, who will be in the 2nd half, and will act will act as developers.

Over time, other functions will be done by students. Students of the 4th semester will be analysts, while the 6 shall be responsible for the architecture. The students of the 7th semester will manage the teams.

In addition to the students and teachers, the School of Professional Computer hire to work together with students at all stages of the projects. For now, the most advanced features will be done for them, since the course has only one class.

According to Marcelo Yamaguti, course coordinator, the practical learning environment is intended to provide students exercise real project situations, enable the interdisciplinary integration of content and allow contact with organizations and businesses.

“At first we will conduct internal projects for the university units, but then companies with partnerships will be made,” says .

For agreements, the Faculty of Informatics has a close relationship with Tecnopuc. The technology park is home to multinational companies such as Dell and HP; Brazilian companies like Stefanini and Globo.com; and local companies, as DBServer.

One of the projects developed in partnership was the Kaizen software, made between Microsoft Innovation Center at PUC-RS, the Faculty of Informatics and ThoughtWorks and DBServer companies in 2013 .

Funded with resources of US $ 120,000 from CNPq, the Kaizen is used in a laboratory within the Tecnopuc in which teams develop projects based on agile concepts.

“When we started structure the software engineering course, we rely on opinions of executives of IT companies, and the idea of ​​providing moments that simulate the daily market was worked from the beginning, “Yamaguti says.

Winter vestibular PUC-RS will be approved the second batch of students of the course.

According Yamaguti, professional formed by graduate will primarily focus on the differential of applied software development process and be able to use processes, methods and IT tools to produce software in a systematic and effective way.

In addition to the bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, the School of PUC-RS for Informatics offers three courses in the area: Computer Science (note 4 in the evaluation of MEC), Information Systems (Note 5) and Computer Engineering (note 4).

There is another course in the IT field, the bacheralado in Business Administration with a background in IT management, linked to the Faculty of Administration, Accounting and Economics. In all, the PUC-RS has about 30,000 students and offers 51 undergraduate courses.

In Brazil, according to the site e-MEC, 22 universities already have training in Software Engineering.
