EMC offers storage free tool set for software – Computerworld

EMC has made available a free download for non-commercial use, without time constraints and ScaleIO capacity, tool lets you create a storage environment defined by software. According to the provider, the platform is designed with enterprise-class resiliency to “empower the next generation of applications requiring hyperscale and reduce operating costs.”

The tool is based solely on software and turns storage on a server in a “block” shared. The technology allows for more flexibility and capacity on demand resources. The SAN architecture scale-out server enables users to evolve from a few to thousands of machines with linear expansion capacity in performance.

The strategy also includes the creation of a digital and interactive community for exchanging information with product experts, downloads, technical support, documentation, user guides, FAQs and training.

The company hopes the move empower clients to create environments in free platform before upgrading to a paid leave .

Opening the source code

EMC also joined the open source world. The movement is marked by the launch of CoprHD Project, an open source version of ViPR Controller.

The manufacturer believes this approach will allow companies to avoid “platform limitations,” can participate in the projects and to change codes to meet your needs, enjoying the same benefits of time and access to a community of like-minded developers.

The ViPR Controller was launched by the company in 2013 for storage automation control point defined by software. The system centralizes and makes storage in a simple, scalable and open platform.

EMC will continue to sell the commercial version of the tool, classified by the company as “an important enabler for third platform applications that require architectures fully integrated storage, cutting-edge and scale-out “.

With availability in GitHub planned for next month, it is expected that the solution receives the Mozilla Public License 2.0 (MPL 2.0) and enable customers , partners, developers and other storage vendors to access, expand and contribute to a comprehensive range of features and functionality of CoprHD project.

Community

According to EMC, create a robust developer community is essential to the future success of storage defined by software and product management and storage automation.

To ensure support for the initiative, the company is investing engineering resources and community to contribute and support the CoprHD Project. In addition, provider recently launched the EMC {} code, technology dissemination team focused on enabling DevOps community with its EMC technology.
